Influence of the Medium

The truth is that man is far from being an angel, just as true as he has been a brute in the most complete meaning of the word.

When he organized himself in a society, he did so under the basis of his instincts of struggle and domination: this explains to us why it has been so badly done.

Society has remained bad because, as it has always in the hands of a minority, it has stipulated things in its favor and when this increases into a concentration of power in the hands of a few, more have they tended to grow and return the bad effects of their ill-fated institutions.

Man, on the contrary, to the extent that his brain is developed and as the ease in which procuring the modes of existence increases, has grown in the sentiment of solidarity, that which he obeyed when he first grouped himself with his fellow men: this sentiment of solidarity has come to constitute a necessity such that the religions have elevated it to the rank of sacrifice, preaching charity, to renounce oneself, and with that they have found a new element of exploitation.

How many have been the dreams of social reorganization, of plans for the happiness of humanity that have emphasized the necessity of living in harmony with their fellow men! But the society is--
